About our Founder

Nika King, the founder of Rose of Sharon, is an actor and mental health advocate. After speaking on the 2021 MTV Entertainment Better Together Mental Health Summit, King saw the importance of using her platform to promote overall wellness not only for herself and family, but also for her community.

When her mother Sharon (pictured) was diagnosed with breast cancer again, Nika felt helpless. Seeing her mother go through so much pain, she was afraid that she was going to lose her mother. Not wanting to wait, King decided to give her flowers to her mother while she was alive.

Upon discovering that Rose of Sharon was a biblical term that symbolized fertile land, she knew The Most High was calling her to something bigger. Her obedience to follow God led to her true purpose of sharing her own  journey of healing herself from pre-diabetes and chronic inflammation in her body. Nika is now spreading her knowledge and experiences to black communities throughout South Los Angeles.

Recently, Sharon and her family expanded their catering business Blue Tree Cafe to a virtual kitchen that will service the surrounding area of the Sistrunk community located in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. in early 2022. The area is a food desert for many of the predominantly black residents. With an emphasis on healthy, plant based options, we want to be a part of the solution and not the problem. We understand that when you eat well, you feel great. Our passion is to restore health and wellness not just for our family, but for neighborhoods that are experiencing systemic racial discrimination and  food insecurity.
